The game
Chess is an original board game that combines chess-piece movement with hidden identities and changes of allegiance. Reveals, reinforcements, victories and challenge completion follow the in-app Rules and Controls. It does not implement standard tournament chess rules or provide a recognized chess rating.
The interface is currently Simplified Chinese. No Chess account is required. Preferences and challenge progress are stored on the device. An unfinished match is held in memory and cannot be resumed after the app exits. Developer-provided cloud progress synchronization is not available.
Free and full access
Regular matches and six original introductory challenges are free. The first three challenges in each of the ten curated chapters are free on Mac; free mobile players must complete one rewarded video each time they enter one of these challenges, without spending an assist. Full access unlocks all ten chapters of the 100 curated base challenges, removes app advertisements and provides three direct assists per match, shared between undo and private inspection. Variants are not counted as additional independent base challenges.
On mobile, free players must finish one rewarded ad for each assist, within the shared three-assist allowance. A failed rewarded-ad request is retried once, for at most two load attempts; continued failure opens the full-access purchase page. Early dismissal grants no access and spends no assist. Mac has no ads and requires full access for assists. Regular matches remain available when ads are unavailable.
Purchases, renewals and restoration
Real purchases are disabled in the current development version. Target prices are CNY 9.90 per year and CNY 19.90 for lifetime access. When offered, the actual price, currency, available regions and purchase status are shown on the app's purchase page and the Apple App Store or Google Play confirmation sheet.
An annual subscription renews and is billed annually unless canceled through the original store before its next renewal. After cancellation, access generally continues until the paid period ends. When a subscription expires without another active entitlement, free access remains and recorded challenge progress is preserved.
A lifetime purchase is a one-time purchase without automatic renewal. Buying lifetime access does not automatically cancel an existing annual subscription. Uninstalling the app, clearing local data or stopping play does not cancel a subscription.
Restore eligible purchases using Restore Purchases and the same account in the original store. Purchases do not transfer between Apple and Google Play. Refunds, revocations and corresponding entitlement changes follow applicable law and the original store's rules.
Content and licenses
The project's current LICENSE grants the MIT license for its original code, scripts, models, materials, icon, synthesized sounds and documentation. These terms do not revoke or narrow rights already granted by that license. Paid access does not confer exclusive rights over MIT or CC0 materials.
Curated challenges retain provenance for the official Lichess CC0 export data. CHESS adaptations, hidden identities and reinforcements are distinct from the source puzzles' answers and ratings. They do not imply Lichess endorsement. Godot, fonts and other components retain their own licenses, available through About Chess and Licenses.
Copies obtained through Apple's App Store are also subject to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement and applicable store terms. Third-party and open-source licenses remain effective. These terms do not limit statutory consumer rights.
Sharing and external services
End-position images and clips are generated only at your request and can be saved to a destination you choose or passed to the system share sheet. Images retain the position before the king-capturing action; clips contain only the last action by each side, without decision time. You choose recipients and are responsible for content you add or send. External apps, advertising services, stores and websites provide their services under their own terms.
