The game and languages
Chess combines chess-piece movement with hidden identities, changing allegiance and reinforcements. The in-app Rules & Controls govern play. It is not standard tournament chess and provides no recognized chess rating. It supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, German and French. Select a language in the main-menu settings or follow the system. No Chess account is needed. Progress is local, with no developer-provided cloud sync; unfinished matches cannot resume after exit.
Free and full access
Regular games and six original introductory challenges are free. In each of ten curated chapters, the first three challenges are free on Mac. Free mobile players complete a rewarded video each time they enter one of them, without spending an assist. Full access unlocks all 100 curated base challenges, removes app ads and provides three direct assists per game, shared between undo and private inspection. Variants do not count as additional base challenges.
Free mobile assists require a completed rewarded video each time, within the shared three-use limit. A failed video request retries once, then offers the full-access purchase page. Closing early unlocks nothing and spends no assist. Mac has no ads and requires full access for assists. Regular play remains available without ads.
Purchases and subscriptions
Real purchases are currently disabled. Planned prices are CNY 9.90 per year and CNY 19.90 for lifetime access. When available, the actual price, currency, regions and status are those shown in the app and the original store’s confirmation sheet.
Annual subscriptions renew and are billed yearly unless canceled in the original store before renewal. Access generally continues until the paid period ends. Expiry restores free access and preserves progress unless another entitlement is active. Lifetime access is a one-time purchase. It does not cancel an existing annual subscription. Uninstalling, clearing data or stopping play does not cancel subscriptions.
Restore eligible purchases with the same account in the original store. Apple and Google Play purchases do not transfer between stores. Refunds, revocations and entitlement changes follow applicable law and store rules.
Content and licenses
New original contributions first released under the current Chess license are proprietary. Redistribution, sublicensing, resale or derivative software requires written permission except where applicable law allows it. You may use authorized copies and save or share app-generated game images and clips for personal use. Paid access does not transfer ownership.
Previously valid MIT grants for earlier copies and covered portions remain effective; the historical notice is retained. This change does not revoke those rights. Godot, plugins and fonts retain their own licenses. Original Lichess puzzle data remains CC0 and freely reusable; Chess adaptations do not restrict it, carry over source answers or ratings, or imply Lichess endorsement.
App Store copies also follow Apple’s Standard EULA and store terms. Third-party license permissions and statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Sharing and support
Save writes directly to Downloads on Mac or Photos/gallery on mobile; Share opens the system share sheet. Images show the position before king capture. Clips contain only the last action by each side, without thinking time. You choose recipients and are responsible for content you add or send. External services have their own terms.
